Motivation & Inspiration

Uwe became fascinated with photography as a teenager and built a little darkroom in the attic of his parent’s house. In the mid-90’s Uwe started doing male model photography and took inspiration from Bruce Weber, one of the all time greats in the field. A decade-long exploration of large format landscape photography was inspired by Ansel Adams, whose seminal books Uwe read as a teenager. In 2003 Uwe made photography part of his business to balance out the rather geeky web development and programming aspects of his work. Uwe has attended photography workshops with Bambi Cantrell, Denis Reggie, and Howard Bond.

Studio & Garden

Our state of the art 500 square foot sunroom studio allows us to use both natural light and controlled studio strobes to create exactly the lighting and mood a particular project calls for. Wireless image transfer between camera and Computer allow us to instantly evaluate images on a large LCD monitor. A woodsy garden provides a lush natural setting by simply stepping outside the studio. A comfortable waiting lounge, private changing room with bathroom and make-up station round out the setting.

Gear

Geek alert! Uwe uses Canon gear with full frame sensor bodies and professional L-Series lenses. The studio lighting consists mostly of mono lights by Paul C. Buff and various light modifiers by Westcott and Fotodiox. Editing and post processing are done on an Apple MacBook Pro connected to a 37″ LCD monitor. Software tools include Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom with various processing plug-ins. The lab quality dye sublimation printer is a DNP DS80 and can produce a glorious, truly photographic 8″x12″ print in under a minute. Brochures, proof booklets, comp cards and related marketing materials are printed in-house on our large format graphic arts color laser printer, the $40k+ DocuColor 240 by Xerox.
